ART FOR ART'S SAKE

johnnie walker

Has Johnnie Walker embodied the age-old adage 'Art for Art's Sake'? Probably not - but who cares, as their recent art-lead campaign proves quite a clever use of their brand values and intellectual property. In a cluttered premium whiskey marketing landscape, Johnnie Walker's taken their iconic Striding Man logo and challenged Indonesian artists to reimagine it, as they paint their own lifesize interpretations in 3-D. The 'Mark Your Step' statues will tour outlets across the country, turning shopping destinations into must-see galleries for consumers to catch influential artists. In addition to their release of a Jane Walker limited edition bottle for Women's' History Month, they prove that art, when parlayed authentically, can be a great space for long-standing brands to break into new territory...as also seen with our recent Zippo x Ben Eine street art campaign. FIRST KFC'S CHICKEN SHORTAGE. NOW GRAVY TOO?!

kfc

If you weren't directly impacted, by now you've at least heard of the great KFC chicken shortage of 2018. As of yesterday about 3% of the 900 KFC locations in the UK are still closed, after being forced to do so when the chain's new delivery supplier DHL failed to meet their hungry consumers' needs two weeks ago. And now, adding insult to injury, the remaining open locations have just run out of gravy! One simply can't enjoy invisible chicken without gravy. It just wouldn't be right. Before this second blow, KFC issued a pretty epic apology to consumers for the chicken shortage (pictured), a lighthearted ad that reordered the brand's name into "FCK", admitting they "FCKed up". So we must give kudos for the apology approach - consumers love when brands can make fun of themselves, especially in times of crisis. But c'mon, guys, get your (d)ish together! READ MORE >

WEIRD

JACK MA - 1, JEFF BEZOS - 0

alibaba

This is a little off the wall, but we love it. Alibaba founder and chairman Jack Ma has hit the silver screen, starring in a new film released by Alibaba Pictures. Launched on the first day of Chinese New Year, the film set out to celebrate martial arts, particularly Taiji, seeing Jack Ma take on the likes of Jet Li. It's an awesome piece of content, but when you place it in context, can you imagine Jeff Bezos of Amazon or Tim Cook of Apple pulling off a similar stunt, to promote their entertainment platforms? It would probably fall flat on its face… so major props to Jack! READ MORE >
